ITINERARY
Embark on a mesmerizing journey through three captivating countries, where culture, history, and breathtaking landscapes converge. Begin in Venice, Italy, the romantic "Floating City" renowned for its intricate canals, timeless art, and Venetian charm. Continue to Innsbruck, Austria, nestled in the heart of the Alps, where imperial history meets natural splendor. Conclude in Ljubljana, Slovenia’s charming capital, enchanted with its picturesque old town, lively riverside cafés, and a perfect blend of history, art, and modern vibrancy.
Day 1
We arrive at the Venice airport in the morning and enjoy a water taxi transfer from the airport to your hotel. After check-in, we embark on a brief introductory stroll through the city and savor a dinner. Overnight stay.
Day 2
After breakfast we visit the landmarks of the city: the Doge’s palace and St Mark’s church. A visit to a Murano glass factory is a must, as these exquisite creations were one of Venice's most renowned exports for centuries. Before the dinner in a local restaurant we take a romantic drive through the canals with a gondola, another must while in Venice.
Day 3
Leaving early, we make a brief stop at Padua to visit the basilica of St. Anthony.
It is beautifuly decorated by famous artists like Donatello and others. Then on to Verona, famous for the tragic lovers Romeo and Juliette and a beautifully preserved Roman arena where operas are staged every summer. We cannot miss the opportunity to see Ötzi in Bolzano - a remarkably preserved man from 5,000 years ago, discovered in a glacier just over 30 years ago, offering a fascinating glimpse into ancient history., Dinner and overnight in Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol.
Day 4
We enjoy a guided walk through the heart of the city, where you'll explore the enchanting medieval main street adorned by the iconic Golden Roof, a stunning balcony built for Emperor Maximilian I, ruler of Austria and the Holy Roman Empire. We also discover his grand tomb in the parish church and admire the renowned icon crafted by Lucas Cranach the Elder, housed in the magnificent Cathedral. Then on to Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and the summer festival of classic music organized in his memory. Our visit features the Cathedral, the Mirabel gardens and the impressive Obersalzberg castle. Dinner will feature the typical beer hall venue.
Day 5
Early departure to Berchtesgaden, a breathtaking national park celebrated for its exceptional natural beauty. Amidst this serene landscape lies a somber historical site - the infamous tea house perched high above, gifted to Adolf Hitler on his 50th birthday. Then on to our next destination…Slovenia. Arrival on the afternoon gives us time to visit Bled. Overnight and dinner.
Day 6
After breakfast a ‘gondola’ takes us to the island in the lake. 99 steps bring us to the church, built over an ancient pre Christian burial ground. According to legend, ringing the bell grants your wish, which is why its enchanting chime is often heard. After tasting the obligatory Bled cream cake we drive into the Triglav National Park where we visit the museum of cheese making; not in the valley but high up in the mountains, where the cattle was taken for the summer grazing season. For dinner we visit a charming medieval town near Bled and taste the most traditional Slovenian meal.
Day 7
Only an hour away is the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. Once a Roman city destroyed by the Huns and reappeared as a Slavic settlement a thousand years ago it slowly expanded and to these days retained the medieval charm centered around the Castle Hill and along the river.
We visit the main historical and cultural sights including the busy farmer’s market abound with street cafes and restaurants. Then we have to drive away as the entry into the underworld is expecting us; we visit the Postojna cave, the longest cave in Europe. Dinner and overnight.
Day 8
We dedicate this day to discovering slovenian history. First we visit Lipizza, a stud farm, established in 1580 by the Austrians to breed and train horses for defending the southern border against Turkish incursions. Some of the original stables remain intact, and we will have the privilege of attending a performance reminiscent of the shows in Vienna.
Next, we visit a traditional Karst home and savor a delightful snack featuring the region's renowned specialty: dried ham., known as prosciutto and pancetta, washed down with ruby color wine called Teran.
Further west, we reach the emerald river Soča, where 110 years ago a battle between Austro-Hungary and Italy took place. We join the guided tour of the place including caverns, shelters, gun positions and even a hospital.
Afterward, we turn to more delightful pursuits as we venture into the enchanting wine country. Best Slovenian wines are produced in this area known also as the Slovenian Tuscany. Not only for the wine but food as well. At a welcoming local farm, we'll indulge in a firsthand experience to see if its renowned reputation truly holds up.
We’ll spend the night in Gorica, home to the largest gambling complex in Central Europe - a tempting opportunity for those feeling lucky.
Day 9
After breakfast it's time to close the book. Depending on the flight arrangements transfer to the airport will be provided.
